Gebouw 72 - City Hall
Light art at Willemsoord 72: a building full of history, light, and future
On the grounds of the former naval shipyard Willemsoord stands building 72, once designed as a sailmaking workshop and now serving as the city hall. During Helder Licht, this robust building transforms into a living artwork.
The sea as origin
The light show begins with the sea: waves, tides, and the wind filling the sails. Images of ropes, iron, ships, and workers come to life. The façade tells the story of craftsmanship, discipline, and a city shaped by water.
Break the concrete, let the light in
The past gives way to change. Light tears through the concrete, revealing a new core. What once served ships now serves the citizens. The building opens up—both literally and figuratively—to the city.
From workshop to house of the people
In soft colors, people appear—moving, gathering, and working together. The central source of light pulses like a heart. The building breathes connection and community. Every day, the future of Den Helder is built here.
Looking ahead
Waves of light flow into the city, toward the sea and the horizon.
