The beach area of Den Helder is more than 7 kilometres long and extends from Huisduinen to Julianadorp aan Zee. For a day at the beach, you can go to one of the 7 beaches, 3 of which are guarded beaches with a “Blue Flag”. Each beach has its own character. Information about all the beaches can be found below.

Den Helder has 3 beaches with the Blue Flag quality mark (the International Environmental Quality Mark for marinas and beaches). These are Strandslag Duinoord, Strandslag Zandloper and Strandslag Julianadorp. The beaches have a 4-star status and have been in the Top 10 of Cleanest Beaches in the Netherlands for some time.

In March 2019, the municipality will place new barriers at the beaches. The old access passes no longer work. Residents and companies with an exemption for access to the beach will receive a new pass at the end of March. This pass is needed to open the new barriers; this is required not only upon arrival but from now on also upon departure. For more information click here.
