Songs and Tunes in Huisduinen Once again, a beautiful, varied and special concert is scheduled in the charming church of Huisduinen. You can enjoy music played on guitar, flute, whistle, accordion, concertina, violin, and Irish bouzouki. Expect a lively mix of catchy tunes and moving, captivating melodies, as well as a selection of traditional and newly written original songs. Auke Hofstra has been part of the Irish traditional music scene for quite some time. He spent many summers in County Clare with Sonja O’Brien — first as a student, later as a teacher. Endless sessions in Doolin, Lisdoonvarna, Feakle, Westport, Galway, Clifden, Kilshanny, Ennis, Ramelton, Letterkenny, Kinvara, and also in the Netherlands and Belgium made playing in DADGAD tuning as natural for him as standard tuning. In fact, when it comes to accompanying tunes and songs, DADGAD feels like the most natural choice for him. Auke is a professional guitarist from Castricum who loves teaching. In previous editions of Irish on Texel, he skillfully and creatively led the guitar workshops. He also composes beautiful tunes and songs, some of which he will perform during this concert. For this occasion, Loes Bakker (the concert’s organizer) will join Auke for several tunes and songs on Irish flute and whistles. Loes teaches flute, tin whistle, ensemble playing and Celtic music in Den Helder and on Texel. Trained as a classical musician, she fell in love with Irish flute and whistle about 25 years ago during a Dervish concert. Her first trip to Ireland was to attend another concert — and to buy her first flute! Since then, she’s been hooked on this enchanting musical style and feels completely at home in it. After the break, a young and energetic folk trio takes the stage: Celtic Constellation brings traditional Celtic and Scandinavian folk in modern, fresh arrangements. The trio (currently performing as a duo, though Judith will join them again for this concert) plays lively jigs and reels, danceable polskas, and stirring waltzes, occasionally interspersed with songs. Judith Be, a classically trained violinist who also studied Scandinavian folk music in Sweden, adds lyrical violin parts and can even sing while playing! Her melodic sound is rhythmically and harmonically supported by violinist Astrid van der Niet (also part of trio Vlier). The duo is completed by Boet Hoitink, who enriches the sound with warm tones on Irish bouzouki, guitar and accordion. Entrance: €15 (cash only). Reservations: loesbakker@gmail.com .
