ESERO Tour at KopGroep Libraries: families travel through space like astronauts On Tuesday 30 December, KopGroep Libraries hosts the ESERO Tour at School 7 in Den Helder. During this free space event, NEMO and ESERO — the educational initiative of the European Space Agency ESA — take families with children aged 8 to 12 on an interactive journey through the universe. Kids explore what astronauts need to know and do to work in space. The tour offers several activities that together form one space mission. Guided by two NEMO staff members, each child becomes part of an astronaut team that must repair the outside of the International Space Station ISS. During astronaut training, they test their reaction speed, discover the real distances in the solar system with the planet ruler, and learn more about the planets using the edible solar system. The interactive Space Quiz challenges their knowledge and curiosity in a playful way. Kids can also take a photo in a cardboard astronaut suit. Visitors move through the activities at their own pace; a full round takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Participation is free and registration isn’t required. With the ESERO Tour, NEMO, ESERO and KopGroep Libraries bring space exploration closer to home. The event encourages children to learn about science, technology, Earth and space through play.
