Discover how workers build your city. From February 21st to April 18th, you can see the work of Anita Mandemaker. The exhibition showcases makers from the past and present.
See the craftsmanship
Workers keep recurring in her work. Road pavers. Builders. Men with wheelbarrows. A torn-up road reveals a gash in the asphalt. A wooden skeleton briefly appears in the streetscape and then disappears again.
Look at the city differently
Mandemaker keeps a close eye on what you see every day. Stones piled high. Hands building. Photos of the strong people who shaped the city. Today, you see redevelopment and urban renewal. Everything is human work.
Reflection in shape and material
Her sculptures are powerful and focused. She lets go of the fixed frame. She saws images into sections and slides them back together. She secures them along the cut edges with small nails. What remains are wooden lines, grooves, and fragile edges.
