De Jutter

De Jutter
Presented on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Helderse Ondernemers Vereniging (H.O.V.) 14 - 1 - 1995

Artist: Kees Doolaard (Rotterdam 1922 - Den Helder 2013)

De Jutter is the traditional nickname of residents of Den Helder. De Jutter stares out over the sea looking for any ships in difficulty, because then there is loot to steal. De Jutter is also a symbol for the tough seafarer, of which Den Helder has known many.

The statue was made in 1993/1994 by order of the Helderse Ondernemers Vereniging. They offered it to the people of Den Helder on 14 January 1995, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the association. The statue was unveiled by Mayor Willem Hoekzema. De Jutter initially stood in the park diagonally in front of the station. The redevelopment in the city centre has given De Jutter a new place in the middle of the city park on Julianaplein, in front of the station. This is an important statue for the residents of Den Helder.
